BEFORE I DIE

ContestaRockHair continues its “Before I Die” campaign, hosting installations in Rome and New York simultaneously.

“ Before I Die” (BID) is an open-call project created by Candy Chang , a contemporary American-based artist whose main passion is making cities as contemplative areas according to her belief: the greatest power of human being is given by introspection and collective wisdom gathered in public spaces; this is the only way to improve our communities and ourselves.

“Before I Die” is an interactive public art project that invites people to share their hopes and dreams publicly. After the artist and urban planner lost someone very close to her, she painted the wall of an abandoned house in her neighborhood in New Orleans using a chalkboard paint and stencils, reporting several times the sentence “Before I die I want to___ “.

In this way, passengers could use the chalk to complete the sentences with their desires directly on the wall.

“I wanted to know what was important to the people around me and I wanted a daily reminder” explained Chang.
