Esposizione di Gemma Fleming @ NYC

NEW YORK 16.03.2011 – Gate 535, the art project created by ContestaRockHair in collaboration withContaminated NYC offered us “Not a Fairy Tale”, a solo-exhibition by the Italian-born artist Gemma Fleming. The title clearly indicates the path that the photo project took in our salon of Hudson Street: not a story to tell, but the true life that Gemma immortalized showing women in full conflict with themselves and desperate for something, looking for a place in the world and often disposed to  violent conflicts driven by their souls. Each piece of this exhibition is a chapter of an introspective journey into the female soul,  being often dark and complex. For the opening of Thursday, March 16, the curator event Virginia Villari brought a solo show of Japanese Butoh dance by two dancers of the New York theater company Vangeline Theater. Perfectly matched to the topics proposed by Fleming, the style of Butoh dance offers grotesque and surreal scenarios  through subversive themes, representing in this case the woman and her painful bond with the earth represented by an apple and  disturbing gestures.
